Saturday, October 12, 2024, at 1300 Hrs. (1:00 P.M.) the Muskego American Legion Post 356 performed their annual American Flag Retirement Ceremony.
The Muskego American Legion and the City of Muskego are responsible for the American Flags you see along Janesville Road, Racine Avenue, Pioneer Drive, and Morland Road located in the Muskego City Limits. The Flags fly from Spring through Veteran’s Day when the city removes the flags for the winter. At that time the Flags that are not serviceable for the following year, are sorted out for retirement.
During the second Saturday of October, every year, the Muskego Legion holds a Retirement Ceremony to burn unserviceable flags, weather permitting, at the Muskego Old Settlement site. The public is welcome to attend.
On Saturday, October 12, the Legion burnt unserviceable City highway flags plus American Flags from veteran grave sites in the Muskego area, a drop barrel at the Muskego Fleet Farm store and several other American Flags dropped off by families or individuals to be included in the Retirement Ceremony. In all more than 600 flags.
